Who we are

The Foundation for the Protection of Children is a mexican non-profit dedicated to the promotion and profesionalization of philantropy throughout mexican society towards the goal of improving the lives of thousands of children in vulnerable situations. We have 20 years of experience guaranteeing a transparent and orderly distribution of both in kind donations or grants, as well as designing, implementing and evaluating programs impacting children’s lives in what we believe are health, education, daily needs, recreation, sports and cultural programs.

What we do

Our role is to create a link between the business community and a network of professional non-profits. We work by designing and implementing social marketing campaigns for the business community- and simultaneously offer non-profits the legal administrative and program development support they need to succeed and grow.

So far, we have networks of over 900 non-profits working in 23 Mexican States. In 2010 we impacted the lives of over 350,000 children and teens, as well as 130,000 adults, including parents and elderly who play a key part in children’s lives. Just last year, we distributed 9.4 million dollars in donations in 23 Mexican states, benefiting over 350 thousand children and teens, as well as 130 thousand adults, enriching the community children live in.

We strive to keep a lean and efficient operation and managed to keep our administrative cost of 1.8% and an operational cost of 13% of our total annual budget, allowing us to allocate more resources to the children in what we consider strategic areas:

Daily needs: We work as NGO partners to Child Services, administrating a fund supporting 12 projects for children and teens living on the street. The programs both support social reintegration and prevent future homelessness.

Every month, we distribute an average of 350 donations to 150 non-profits, helping cover their most pressing needs including food, cleaning supplies, children’s clothing and diapers.

Education: For the past three years, we have operated our Afterschool Technology Program (LIA), benefiting 3,400 children and teens, including those with disabilities, living in group homes and attending low income schools. Our annual School Supply Drive benefited 4,000 children living in group homes and we operarate a fund supporting 9 education projects for 1500 children and teens living on the street.

Consultation and Non Profit Development: We guide non-profits in their plan towards sustainability and long time development, helping them make better use of their resources towards remodeling and refurnishing projects, community gardens and industrial kitchens. In 2010, we provided free consultation for 250 non-profits and guided them through the process of importing international donations and another 259 benefited from using our facilities, for their meetings, workshops, press conferences and training sessions at no cost.

Health: We have a network of 44 community clinics and in-site doctors’ offices in children’s homes that we support by supplying medical equipment, medicines and medical supplies. Our work supports the wellbeing of 42,200 kids, women, adults and elderly every year.

Art: We operate the Music Without Borders Legacy program founded by Spanish classic guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas who this year brought music to the lives of 950 kids who enjoyed free concerts and year round music workshops.

Human Rights: The Foundation grants its facilities and financial support to the Children’s Rights Network since it began in 2001. The Network is made up of over 70 non-profits doing research and public policy advocacy so Mexico fully complies with international accords regarding children’s human rights.
